Abstract |
The experimental difficulties associated with recording the frequency spectra of ultrasound pulse-echo signals are discussed. In particular, the most troublesome sources of synchronous and asynchronous noise are reviewed. A simple interface circuit for XY chart recording of these frequency spectra is presented. We discuss its major advantages over conventional Polaroid hardcopy recording. These include its ability to discriminate against both synchronous and asynchronous noise and its ability to record multiple spectra on the same XY chart. A detailed discussion of our spectral amplitude calibration procedures is also included. |

Abstract |
Ultrasound elasticity imaging is a promising method that may eventually allow early detection of many tissue pathologies. However, before elasticity imaging can be applied to its numerous potential clinical applications, the quantitative accuracy of tissue elasticity measurements must be established. Simple 1-D ultrasound elasticity measurements were performed on muscle and liver and compared with independent and established mechanical measurements to investigate both the accuracy and consistency of ultrasound elasticity measurements. In addition, some interesting properties of soft tissue and aspects of the measurement process which should be considered in elasticity measurements are discussed. |

Abstract |
A ZnO piezoelectric film has been satisfactorily deposited on a concave substrate of a gold hemispherical shell to produce a concave transducer for microwave ultrasound. The fabrication process of the concave transducer, with a focal distance of 5-9 mm, and also experiments on focusing radiation in water at 100 MHz, are described. |

Abstract |
We have studied the effects of ultrasound on the female rat fertility. When utilized at similar power than for human beings, the echography reduces significantly the number of foetus counted at the 15th day of the gestation. A direct action of the.ultrasounds on the mechanisms of the ovulation is to be considered. |
